Works well
- Established local businessesYou've been trading a while, you have customers, and the website is the weakest thing you own.
- Owners who answer the phoneDecisions get made quickly because the person deciding is the person I'm emailing.
- Trades and contractorsPlumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, landscaping, general contractors and home builders.
- Anyone who's been burnedA previous site built badly, abandoned, or held hostage by whoever made it.
Works badly
- Anything needing a loginCustomer accounts, dashboards and portals are a different discipline and someone else does it better.
- Large storesA handful of products is fine. A catalogue of four hundred needs a platform, not a hand-built site.
- Design by committeeIf five people must approve every heading, the process I use will frustrate all of them.
- Long gaps between repliesThe build moves at the speed you answer questions. Reply the same day and a site can be live inside a week. Leave it two weeks each time and it drags on for months.
Why it's set up this way
Every site here is designed, written and coded by one person, and that person is me. There's no team to hand your project to when something more interesting arrives. The trade is that I can't take many at once.
It also shapes how the work runs. I build the site before you pay for it, on a temporary address, so you're looking at the real thing rather than a mockup. If you don't want it, you walk away owing nothing. That would be reckless at volume. At this scale it's just fair.
And the writing is mine. You describe the business once and I draft the pages from it, then you correct what I've misunderstood. Nobody gets handed a blank content form and left alone with it.
Projects I've finishedIf you think you're in the first column
Send a short description and I'll tell you honestly whether I'm the right person for it.
Received.
I'll read it properly and reply from my own address, usually within a business day.
